Green To Clean Pool Service on Long Island

Empire Pools specializes in swampy, dark-green, and cloudy pool cleanups across Suffolk and Nassau County. We don’t just hammer the pool with chlorine — we use a staged green-to-clean process with debris removal, vacuum-to-waste, targeted chemistry, and filter deep-cleaning so your water recovers safely and your liner and equipment are protected.

What to Expect

Built for Long Island “Swamp-to-Swim” Projects

Green-to-clean on Long Island needs more than a one-time shock. We start with photos and on-site testing to see just how far gone the water is — color, visibility, and debris load. From there, we build a plan that may include vacuum-to-waste to remove sludge, floc or clarifiers for fine particles, and a staged shock program so we’re not over-stressing your liner, heater, or salt cell. We watch filter pressure, backwash or clean cartridges/DE as needed, and adjust circulation so the system is doing the heavy lifting between visits. Most jobs involve multiple visits; our goal is to move you from “can’t see the first step” to “comfortably clear” in the safest, most efficient way possible.

What’s Included

  • Initial assessment with water testing and photos to gauge severity.
  • Heavy debris removal from the surface and floor (nets and leaf rakes).
  • Vacuum-to-waste where possible to remove sludge and dead algae out of the pool.
  • Staged shock treatments tailored to pool volume, surface type, and filtration.
  • Algaecides and clarifiers/floc as appropriate to clump fine particles for removal.
  • Filter service as needed (backwash sand/DE or clean cartridges) to restore flow.
  • Guidance on pump run-times and valve settings between visits for maximum circulation.
  • Follow-up visits to brush, vacuum, re-test, and re-balance until the pool is clear.
  • Final chemistry balancing to bring chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and stabilizer back into range.
  • Note: Every green pool is different. Starting at $499 + tax covers the initial green-to-clean project level; severe “swamp” conditions, heavy debris, and extra visits are quoted as we see how the pool responds.

Green To Clean — FAQs

How long does a green to clean take?
Most light to moderate green pools can be turned around in a few days with 1–2 visits. Severe “swamp” conditions with heavy debris or no visibility can take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline after the first visit based on what we see.
Will you need to drain my pool?
In many cases we can recover the water without a full drain, using vacuum-to-waste and staged treatments. If there are structural concerns, severe staining, or extremely poor water quality, we’ll explain when partial or full draining makes sense before any major step is taken.
Is green to clean included in weekly service?
No. Green to clean is a separate cleanup project. Weekly service is designed to maintain a healthy, clear pool once the water is already in good shape. After the recovery, we can transition you into weekly or seasonal service so it doesn’t happen again.
Do I need to run the pump nonstop?
During a green-to-clean, we usually recommend extended or 24-hour run-times so chemicals circulate and the filter can pull out dead algae. We’ll set valves and timers as needed and tell you exactly how long to run the system between visits.
What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
Keep the water balanced, maintain consistent filtration, and avoid long stretches with the pump off. We’ll show you the key numbers to watch, and if you’d prefer, we can set you up with weekly or seasonal service so algae never gets a head start.
